I find it sad that people apparently think Equestria would be homophobic. I think that's probably one of the fictional places least likely to be homophobic tbh. I mean it's a happy pony utopia. I really wish they could casually feature a same sex pony couple in canon, but I understand why they wouldn't (the network and the fact that a lot of parents would probably try to get the show taken off the air). LOTR is long, but the movies aren't that bad, and I don't think they're too hard to follow. If you've ever read, watched or played some big fantasy epic, you'll have a decent idea of what to expect. Pretty much all modern fantasy epics are heavily influenced by LOTR.
