As an American, this issue exactly ticks me off so much.

There are other countries, SJWs. With their own backgrounds, histories, and problems, and sometimes those are different from yours, and sometimes that means we are not all on the same page. The answer is to help each other out and deal with it like mature adults, not scream other people down for having the audacity to be born in a different country and culture than yours.

And also, sometimes people who LIVE IN THOSE COUNTRIES actually know more about the social, political and historical problems those countries have than your sad, mostly white, 'I totally took a class on it in undergrad so obvs I know because of my learnings' ass.

Yes, this.

Especially as lot of the time the differences in the way prejudice (especially racism, I've noticed) is expressed in different countries can be really subtle and really hard to articulate. :(

This is kinda off topic, but I have to say it. Every time I read one of your comments, you're reasonable and thoughtful and kind. Just, go on being awesome.

I wonder sometimes if this happens because so much of fandom is specifically American fandom, so when you're talking about something or making a joke or quoting something, everybody in the comm/lj you're in knows what you're talking about because they've all seen Thor, too, or whatever.

And then people forget that that only works for movies about superheroes and tv shows about vampires with souls.

And then they get stupid.

They don't want equality...
