I wonder sometimes if this happens because so much of fandom is specifically American fandom, so when you're talking about something or making a joke or quoting something, everybody in the comm/lj you're in knows what you're talking about because they've all seen Thor, too, or whatever.

And then people forget that that only works for movies about superheroes and tv shows about vampires with souls.

And then they get stupid.
