according to the sj warriors who took one semester of sociology, they can't, because the textbook definition of racism (the one nobody uses) is racism has to be PREJUDICE + POWER and minorities have no power or something like that

idk logic doesn't apply to these people

(Anonymous) 2012-11-21 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Except that in Japan, Japanese people have power, so... that definition still stands.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-21 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
But you know, according to SJ crusaders, every white person who comes to Japan HAS MORE POWER AND PRIVILEGE THAN ALL THE JAPANESE. Cause you know, white supremacy and all that. Dude, don't you know ANYTHING.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, but we're not talking about white people in Japan, we're talking about the racial minorities in Japan, like Koreans, Ainu, Filipinos, and Africans.

White people in general do have privilege over pretty much the entire world, because Europeans dominated the planet and colonized the fuck out of everywhere, enslaving and displacing people of colour all over the place.

White people in specific and in certain situations probably aren't privileged over Japanese people in Japan, for example, but they sure as fuck are privileged over black people in Japan.

For example.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know that. I just wanted to point out what those SJ retards actually believe and preach as absolute truth.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Surely you know better than to bust out an ableist slur in SJ conversations.

Surely.

I shall have to assume that you did it on purpose because you're a troll.

SJW's are social retards. It stands. "We are tired of explaining" may well be true, but it, (and they are too stupid to realize this) still doesn't take the individual into account. You know, like they demand of others every-time somebody notes what they said didn't offend others.

Somebody's an asshole to me and others, I'm not "calling them out", they are too close-minded to recognize any flaw in their idiot groupthink. But I can make it clear they failed.

lol did you even read the comment you replied to

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
if you are a blonde white girl in Japan (especially Nagoya) you have privilege because blonde hair and fair skin are highly prized features. However, you can also look forward to EXTENSIVE racial profiling because people will assume that you are a prostitute/mail-order-bride from Eastern Europe. If you have big tits (not in general, just by Japanese standards) and like to wear sexy clothes and/or carry an expensive handbag, expect to be hauled to a police station to have all your papers looked at on a regular basis.

And if you DO need help from the cops-- like, say, if you were assaulted-- expect for them to laugh to each other about it, because, well. You look like a gaijin whore.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
See, now, that's what's called sexism.

With a bit of xenophobia thrown in, sure, but the base oppression that's at play there is misogyny.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
sa, sexism is definitely a huuuuge part of it; but non-white girls (or even white brunettes) do not have that particular problem. It's a white-girl-only issue :\

(Which is of course not to say that it's the worst problem you can face in Japan; that it in anyway compares with the problems that, for example, Brazilians and Koreans in Japan face, etc. But it's still an actual problem that shouldn't be ignored)

As a white American chick with large breasts living in Tokyo who does like to dress-up occasionally, I'm pretty sure you're full of shit. Not once in six years has this even remotely happened to me or any of my friends.

"Probably"? Even white people, along with other "minorities" here are denied housing, denied entrance into various businesses, denied help from cops if something bad happens, always treated with suspicion and as the guilty party, always treated as "other"... There is no "privilege" in Japan for white people besides occasionally someone who thinks white people are attractive, or cool/international, or want an accessory white person friend to speak English with.

I'm a non-white woman living in Japan and yeah, "minorities" probably have it worse (depends on where you come from, I'd say southeast asians get the most shit here, but that's just my experience) but since everyone has a unique experience it's hard to rank. I've seen ads with black face and dressing up as Native Americans, etc. I've also had Japanese girls tell me they are afraid of black men, and tell me Chinese people are ugly and loud (and I'm Chinese). But I've also heard from conservative, old Japanese people that white people are out to destroy Japan, and smell bad. I'm dead serious. It's pretty ignorant to say white people have it good in Japan, because they don't. No one does, and it's not just xenophobia. And Japan was never colonized by the west, either.

Point being, Japan has a lot of racism, and sometimes treats people like shit if they are not the right color, white, black, brown, whatever. I don't think it's the worst place to be a non-Japanese person, but sometimes I get so mad I want to leave, but it's my work here, so...

China's not much different, either, from what I've heard. And think about it - the world's top three economies are America, China and Japan... two are non-white. I'm not white but I'm embarrassed by SJWs who insist that white people can't face racism in countries that don't give a fuck about American politics and social issues. It's like, let's stop making this "oppression Olympics" and let's just agree it's bad and needs to change, no matter who the victim is!

Every situation that is and ever will occure is a specific and certain situation.

Try to be white and get a job in Japan that lets you stay. See how that goes.

White people in general do have privilege over pretty much the entire world, because Europeans dominated the planet and colonized the fuck out of everywhere, enslaving and displacing people of colour all over the place.

What country dominated and colonized the f*** out of northeast, east, and southeast Asia beginning in the late 19th century?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
It's the SJW version of history. White=evil, POC=eternal innocent victims, which in itself is pretty racist (denying the strengths of non-white societies and cultures and being phenomenally Eurocentric, cos, you know, America is the great Liberator from colonialism) but hey.

PLUS, CLEARLY EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD IS EXACTLY LIKE HOW IT IS IN THE UNITED STATES. because their sociology 101 course said so.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
ironically, the one that made that definition is... a white woman. And any other definition (IE: Wikipedia or Dictionary) is false since it was made for white people.

[personal profile] visp 2012-11-22 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
That's not a SJW thing. That's this one school of thought, following this one social theory, that decided "Hey, let's re-define what the word 'racism' means, and give it a more specific meaning, because apparently we find adding an adjective or just using 'Institutionalized Racism' to define this one type of racism to be too sensible." Then the idiots got ahold of it and decided that not using the word their way was some kind of offense. But that's a linguistic/definition issue that has SJW on both sides.

..yeah, half of my family is white (German, specifically). the other half is black (not sure exactly where from). it is entirely possible to experience racism on a personal level (if not an institutional one) if you are white in north america.

inb4 we are now fucking discussing how it is possible to be racist'd against in north america as a white person instead of talking about the point OP made, which has been proven by this subsequent conversation (and now I'm participating in it).
