Thinking that the US only has one view is just as questionable. Even between cities there are gaping differences in public policy - and that's not just with regards to the States.

Anon above said it better. It's not thinking that the US only has one view but that the view put forth by the Americans participating in a particular discussion is held to be the only correct one. United Statesians refusing to recognize any viewpoints besides their own as relevant, in other words.
