I liked the first Devil Survivor, but thought #2 was way too big of a tonal shift and lacked the awesome claustrophobic atmosphere of the first. (Joe was awesome, though. Don't let anyone say different.)

I don't really disagree with your criticisms, but I still think it's a great game, and I love the characters - and I was quite happy to see the protagonist's male friend being the whiny ineffectual one, rather than the female one...my second run of the first was spent just randomly shutting down Yuzu whenever I could because she drove me nuts.
