I find it sad that people apparently think Equestria would be homophobic. I think that's probably one of the fictional places least likely to be homophobic tbh. I mean it's a happy pony utopia. I really wish they could casually feature a same sex pony couple in canon, but I understand why they wouldn't (the network and the fact that a lot of parents would probably try to get the show taken off the air). One day...

You know it's weird. I'm pretty sure Dan VS has had a gay character on it before...And if not I'm pretty sure they could get away with it considering the amount of adult things they have on it. It's on the same channel so who knows?

That was my thought too. I mean, besides the fact that it's a world of love and happiness, they're horses. Homophobia is found in exactly one species, and it isn't horses.

Okay, I've seen a few episodes and Equestria always seemed like a "Love and tolerance" kind of place. Is that... not true? Or are these shippers just creating it for the anggggsssssssttttt?

Probably because Braeburn (the hatted pony) lives in a country/western town. With the ten gallon hats and western shootouts. I'm guessing fandom jumps to the 'country = homophobic' notion.

Not that the topics of homosexuality and homophobia are ever addressed in canon, but I have a hard time believing they'd be real issues in that setting, at least for most.

Oh god. the ONE fic I read for these two (well written though) was he was closeted, but his ENTIRE FAMILY is basically like a stereotypical Southern, hillbilly, kill-the-gays type thing. Like, his dad BEAT HIM when he made an innocent comment as a colt that he wanted to marry Big Mac. And even Applejack has a few snide comments to make about gay ponies. Made me sad, cause I ship her with Twilight and Rarity.

But yeah. Braeburn is always closeted and, Soarin, at least in that fic, was a playboy jackass who just happens to be well versed in finding those who are still in the closet...

....Looking back at that, that was a shit fic and I'm glad I never finished it. :/

AJ is the most laid back, most "normal" char in the mane cast. Making her a homophobe is so not on.

Btw, to me MLPs have always been pansexual by default. After all they're mostly female and sometimes exclusively female (for example in G3).
I just don't buy them discriminating against any kind of romance.
They'd make love parties for every couple and stuff like that.

But then it is common Brony knowledge that Celestia is some kind of dictator and the mares all need to fight for the few colts to breed and shit like that /rollseyes

So do these pony fic actually portray pony sex? Like when you say slashing or shipping or whatevs are you talking sex and all or what.

I am so confused by pony fandom when it comes to things like shipping.

I know there's a lot of porny pony art floating around, so I'm guessing the fic is the same.

I like shipping (Fluttershy/Rarity <3), but I have no interest in reading about them having sex. I just like the light, fluffy romance (or even just BFF fic).

Oh there is. Rule34 and all. But I can only stomach PG fluff, MAYBE a tiny bit of PG-13 with my ships. But that's it. Unless I draw them as people. Then I'll get them saucy. Otherwise? No.

From what I understand, roughly 1/3 of the pony fandom is, yeah, completely and unabashedly into the full-on pony sex portrayal, with a heavy dollop of "OH I GUESS WE WATCH THE SHOW FOR THE 'PLOT' HAHA GET IT WINKWINK NUDGENUDGE" thrown in just to make sure that everyone is in on the "joke."

...not that there's anything WRONG with that. Honest. If pony-porn is what you want, I'm not gonna judge! I'm simply telling the above Anon what I've observed from my time in the MLP:FiM fandom.

I am not in the MLP fandom at all (I recall watching the original as a kid). Do they have horse sex in these stories?

I dunno, there's a lot of raeg in some quarters of the fandom over suggesting that a character in a kids' show could possibly be a lesbian if she's not, like, shown fucking another mare onscreen 9_9 Some guys see it as insulting the character. Drives me nuts.

It sounds like your authors want to up the angst factor, either just for a more dramatic story, or because they identify with Braeburn and want to work out those feelings through h/c. Personally, given the drastic gender imbalance, I kind of figure that same sex pairs are the norm, with reproduction through some kind of pony magic.

BTW, I never thought of that pairing, but it's adorable. And the more I think about it, the less I can imagine Braeburn being in the closet about anything. He's just so happy! About stuff! He wants to show you around!
