My interpretation of responsibility was that you have more work because the friend isn't just right there or someone you can hang out or go places or call on the phone. It's someone you have to sign on and remember to keep updating your blogs or whatevers. I find it far less casual to keep up with friends online than I do irl and it sometimes stresses me out.

This this this!!! It's a lot easier when you just run-into someone as part of an everyday routine (school, work, etc.,). If you have a steady online haunt, it's easier to make friends there. But part of the appeal of online activities is entering when you want, leaving when you want, or skipping out if you want, without responsibility. It's a bit of a chore when you're ~not in the mood~ for something, but don't want your friendships to fall apart from neglect.

I kind of agree with this. Granted, I don't have the easiest time getting to know people well IRL, but I find that with offline friendships, they grow pretty organically as a rule because conversations can arise out of things we're doing together.

That can happen online, too. I've had online friendships that have grown organically in a similar way. But there can also be some pressure to just be friends with someone because they have the same OTP as you or something, and that's easier said than done. Friendships take effort, but they also need to grow, and just having a fandom or pairing in common with someone isn't always enough to make that happen.
