Yeah, no. Unless you mean that Americans actually acknowledge their racism unlike many other countries and actively seek to repair the damage their countrymen have done.

If you want to talk about your country's issues, then bring them up. The Internet's not populated exclusively by Americans. There's got to be a couple people from your country out there. Or, hell, maybe there are Americans who care about your issues because their family comes from your area of the world or they just plain care.

Also, SJWs don't represent even a good portion of Americans. They're mostly douchebags from Tumblr, LJ, and ontd who don't understand anything outside their little circle.

It's more like SJWs refusing to acknowledge racism in other countries if it doesn't fit their model.
For example, racism against Polish people in the UK, according to American SJWs does not exist. And like, I think it would be really cool if you could just make that racism go away by saying "Polish people are white so nobody can be racist against them!", but it's kind of not that easy so instead the people who insist on saying that just end up as (at the very least) an ignorant asshole doing the opposite of social good.

The everyone-white-colonised-everyone-else mantra doesn't cut it when large parts of Eastern Europe were colonised and oppressed by exactly the same people who colonised and oppressed Africa, Asia and America. In Western Europe, slavic people are white-other, not 'caucasian'. Doubly funny considering where the Caucasus actually is.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, that's exactly why using 'caucasian' for that, in the way the American census (and many American people) do, is another example of American ways of thinking getting imposed on discourse... I don't think I know of anyone in Europe using 'Caucasian' in that way to mean 'all white people', unless perhaps they have recently imported it from being heavily exposed to US discourse..

I hate that, I hate it soo much. I'm not even white and I hate it.

Those SJW weirdos are trying to force people into two groups, devoid of culture, geography, and personality. Oppressors, and victims, and no one can ever change. Not to mention treating every single POC like a hivemind...ugh it's just so patronizing, and insulting.

I'd rather be what they call me aka 'white identifying'. >_<

They scare the shit out of me, really.

or even in their own country. my family was irish and faced terrible discrimination when they emigrated to the us even though they would be considered "white." but that's not really racism because they were white!

Exactly, I've even heard SJW's saying that Turkish people are basically white and can't be oppressed, even though they are one of the MAJOR immigration groups in countries like Germany or Belgium, and they absolutely DO count as a minority group there.
And yeah, discrimination against Eastern European absolutely exists. I don't care if you don't want to call it racism, but it's ethnicity-based discrimination and it's absolutely n issue.

Uh Anon ... while I agree with OP that US-centrism on socio-political issues is a problem and Europe generally has problems with ethnic opression and xenophobia. However, Polish people in UK? REALLY!? Take a look at minorities from conflict ridden countries, refugees and those outside of EU.

...would that not just be xenophobia? Eastern Europeans are still white, no?

Thank you for helping me get a step closer to what I want to say about this thread.

There are Americans who think that race issues in the United States are identical to ones outside of it, like underprivileged populations are all interchangeable. That's not true, and those people are wrong. That doesn't seem to be what we're talking about in this thread, though... it sounds more like a lot of people who think that Zwarte Piet is some kind of priceless cultural relic. And those guys can go fuck themselves!

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, you heard it here first, folks. Only Americans care about racism. Aren't you happy they're here to rescue us all from the pit of our own ignorance? Aren't you glad they know more about your own society than you do?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I guess I must have hallucinated all the times people in my country have given a shit about racism then. :/

Or how Ronald Reagan armed Saddam Hussein. Or how the USA actively supported religious fundamentalism in Afghanistan to create a bulwark against communism.

True fact. You don't get it so much now, but as an Irish person, getting lectured about "the Cause" by Irish-American terrorist apologists made me want to puke. Anyone who ever put money in a NORAID bucket in a Boston bar has fucking blood on their hands.

Face/palm. As an American, I can only wonder what country you live in that you think we are doing any better at repairing damage and acknowledging racism than any other country. Do you actually watch the news?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing they meant Tumblr-Americans, and not news-Americans.

Also, SJWs don't represent even a good portion of Americans. They're mostly douchebags from Tumblr, LJ, and ontd who don't understand anything outside their little circle.

But they are on social media sites where plenty of young people sometimes turn for advice and as a way to find themselves.

Howm any have been turned to anger, guilt (and extreme white guilt), and hatred due to the vile antics of SJWs.

They are tarnishing the real Social Justice movement, and it's spreading beyond those sites.

...and that is not good.
