Lovely. It manages to take Shades of Grey's single petty achievement--being unapologetic porn marketed to women, written by a woman, and reinterpret it to "all guys do this naturally".

if it had been a female saying it, she would have gotten kudos.

the point is, the book is shit and it's shit because 15 year olds first discovering NC-17 fics are writing better than that shit.

What? That all men do that naturally? Not really. She might have gotten some *jokes* about it, but if it was as dead serious as that guy seems to be someone probably would have spoken up.

I'm pretty sure that they mean "If a woman said they'd been fantasizing about BDSM since they were 15 they'd get kudos"

I think the weirdness the OP is picking up on is the fact that the guy is suggesting he was fantasizing about that stuff because he was a guy, not that he was fantasizing about it at fifteen. The joke seems to be playing on the stereotype that men think about sex more often, and younger, than women do.

Yeah. Somehow I suspect the cartoonist doesn't even realize the sex in 50 Shades is bdsm (or 'bdsm', since from what I understand, Christian ignores pretty much every good practice) and not vanilla, he(?) just knows it's porny.

I have to wonder if the artist even read the book before he made this, or did he just hear it being called porn for women and go with that.

I hope so. Saying he's been making up stories like 50 Shades of Gray all his life because he's a guy bugs me, because I guess the implication is that all guys make up fantasies about dominating women (unless the author only knew it was about sex, and didn't know about the BDSM). I already feel like a lot of people will probably think I'm stupid and naive for hoping I can find a guy who wants to be with a woman and doesn't want to be dominant (in a sexual way or any other way).

Yeah, the author of that comic obviously identifies with Bub Slug more than Betty, so the "Hype is ridiculous" comments usually come from Bub. That said, nobody but the author actually likes Bub, hence why the comic was reconceptualized to be about Betty. So basically Bub gets to show up when the author wants to treat a topic without consideration and get away with it.

I don't keep up with that comic like I used to when I had a newspaper subscription, but I'd be interested in seeing Alex's reaction to FSoG.

The "Betty, I'm a guy" as an answer is a pretty clear indication that all men are supposed to think that way.

tbh, I'm kind of getting the impression that the comic's creator hasn't actually read the book an has no knowledge of it beyond the fact that it's popular and smutty. I've definitely had some kinky fantasies since I was 15 too, but...not the hilariously dumb shit depicted in 50 Shades (that book really is just the opposite of sexy)
