No comment on the personal taste thing, but yes, I think a lot of people have trouble separating actors from their characters, and when they start acting on it, it gets...pretty scary.

I don't get it, I love characters, I don't care about their actors... I'm also quite clear on the fact that comedians and TV personalities are playing a role on stage and aren't the same in RL.

I've never understood that tendency, either. Like, I know sometimes people just mix them up because of the faces, but when you're online and have a moment to stop and separate them before you start, IDK, sending Hiddleston death threats, there's no excuse.

And yeah, comedians and news hosts and other such things - they are performers, and it kind of pains me how most people don't seem to get that. (Except for the saner half of RPF fandoms - like, some people I talk to acknowledge that actors and such have public personas and that is what they are writing fic about and such, and that's fine - it's the people who don't seem to grasp that concept who worry me, and I'm pretty sure are usually the ones behind most death threats sent to real people).

I'm in an RPF fandom where fans actually get that what we see are personas. They have the same names and faces as the people playing them, but they *are* playing them. RPF used to scare me because I never encountered any where fans could separate the two. It changed fandom for me when I found that there are people who can.

Exactly!

I know, most of them aren't as mean/nice, smart/stupid as they appear on our screens they are just playing up the sellable parts of their personalities. (Why would you send death threats to anyone?)

I'm not 100% sure why Hiddleston got death threats, I just remember there was a lot of wank with fans telling off the senders for it a while back. (Though to be fair, these days most famous people get some death threats at one point or another once statistics puts enough crazy people into their fanbase).

Ahahah, was it the prank by a fake Thor 2 twitter account saying Hiddles was going to post a picture from the Thor 2 set? I remember people saying they stayed home to refresh twitter and tumblr instead of going to school and work, and you can imagine how ~upset~ the fans became when the promised pictures never showed up.

I dunno? I don't really follow celebrity news to be honest, but it wouldn't surprise me. (That is true.)
