Thank you OP, for attempting to make the pit of the Internet somewhat more tolerable. I salute you.

(I'm not being sarcastic, ff.net really is shit and I'm glad someone's enforcing the rules on there.)

Sadly, reporting is not enough.

The mods let reports pile up for -I kid you not- months at best, years at most, blindly go through a few of the pile for a few weeks, and then call it a day, so wrongly/grudge reported stories get deleted and a bunch of rules-breaking stories remain anyway.

The mods are ridiculously terrible at enforcing the rules.

The only time outside of "purge time" I've seen them reply promptly to a report was this one time that I reported a troll account that uploaded a picture of goatse as their profile icon.

Why would people steal stories from other places and post them on FF.net? Do they want to attract flames or something?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-23 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
They either think no one will ever find out, know about the shitty moderation, and/or don't give a shit if they ever get caught.

humanity, -1 :(

Hey, cheer up anon!

Look at it this way: How much does the rest of your life have to suck that plagiarizing fanfiction of all things looks alluring?

Er, um, okay, maybe not the most optimistic of outlooks, but I guess that as far as all terrible life-problems-avoiding techniques there are, stealing fanfiction beats drug addiction, self-harm, etc.? Surely? :(

There's also a good chance that they will grow up, and then look back and cringe at how stupid it all was.

And really, in the grand scheme of things, they could be doing more harmful things.

I- I- Sorry, anon, I'm not very good at this cheering up thing. orz

Just know that most fanfiction writers post their own stuff and plagiarizing, super annoying and disrespectful as it is, is still the minority. c:

Well, if they took the username exactly, and all the fanfic exactly, and didn't add their own personal spin on anything or interact with people posing as the author of the fic... they may just have wanted to have the fic available on ff.net. Like archiving without permission rather than plagiarism.
