7: Your afraid because of the batch of icky people? You don't want to say you like fandom because of what other people have associated with fandom?

Why don't you say it and prove them wrong? Show that fandom isn't just a bunch of sick freaks... your friends should be fine with you as you are.

hi, I am the OP of #7

my secret was a joke, I think there is maybe one person here who caught it. I have not been in high school for 3 years but am glad to see that I could still pull off the tone. meanwhile, fandom responds with the exact knee-jerk "you snotty bitch!!!11!11!" shit that I had expected.

I am replying to you because you might be one of like two or three people who did not have that reaction. whether or not you think fake cheerleader is stupid, you went for a positive answer, and that is heartwarming. part of the reason I don't associate with fandom very much is because of the sheer level of wildly disproportionate emotion that goes in it. people post secrets here about how they are ruined forever because of one person's fanfiction, or that somebody's RPing of a character hurts their soul, or that they are crushed to death because their mom has grounded them from watching tv. people saying their lives were saved by a tv show? what? fandom is an escape from reality, and there's nothing wrong with that, but when people start preferring to live in fandom at the expense of necessary reality, something is very wrong. I picked a cheerleader for this because everybody hates cheerleaders, and school is often not that pleasant. but for people to react so violently and hatefully is...yeah. there are some people who make fandom their entire lives and that is scary to me. I love cool stuff and being a fan of it, but some people take it to the extreme.

at any rate, you are a kind and obviously intelligent person. you win the prize, as did everyone else who realized it was a joke. thumbs up.

'Joke'? haha. /deadpan.
If someone's acting like that, 'snotty bitch' I think is a legitimate response.

yes, it was a joke. maybe the fact that somebody was talking about high school issues and going to class in MID AUGUST should have tipped you off. (I thought people would catch me, but they didn't.)

yes, so fake cheerleader is a snotty bitch...why? because she doesn't talk about fandom all the time in real life and thinks that's kind of retarded? because fake cheerleader has a better life than the fake fandom nerds and the fake fandom nerds resented that?

it is amazing how many people in fandom have apparently never gotten over high school. if I had replaced "RP" for "grades" and taken out the "cheerleader" part, it would have merited no more than a "hey, not everybody who's in fandom is a loser, you know!" type response. but it seems that REAL LIFE is totally different.

I cannot believe so many people were so hilariously butthurt over this. it is ostensibly a 15- or 16-year-old whining that the girls into fandom at her school are complete losers. the reaction was basically the same as denying the holocaust.

grow the fuck up, kids.

Yeah, I don't know how to break this to you, but your local school district isn't the only one in the world. And some of them start classes earlier than others. Some have already started around here.

To answer your question, fake cheerleader is a snotty bitch because she thinks being a bimbo in a miniskirt makes her OMGSPECIALANDIMPORTANT. If she were real, ten years from now she'd be selling her ass for crack after she figured out that she can't make a living waving pompoms around and looking cute.

I'm Australian. We do go to school in August so it didn't click that we don't have cheerleaders, and that the US isn't in school in August.

I think one thing about a 'joke' is that it has to be hmn, 'funny'? If you were saying 'it was a trolling attempt' then you'd be correct.

'better life'? This is why people are getting pissed off at you. I don't see why 'cheerleader, footballer boyfriend' equals 'better'. People have different aims in life, not everyone's into parties. And 'better' is subjective. I think it sounds like a horrible fictional life. But if fictional cheerleader is happy, whatever. I still would think she's a total fucking idiot, and needs to grow up.
And apparently, so do you.

... not everyone in Fandom is *out* of highschool. So 'never gotten over highschool'? And those who are out of highschool, like me, still hate stuck up cows, because they sure do exist in real life as well.

And, if she were a real 15 or 16 year old girl, then it wouldn't have been too late for her.

Seems like it is for you. *shrugs*
