I don't want to shatter your innocence like this, so I'll be gentle D:

Generally, instead of being conscientious about social justice and change, like most people would assume, they're more likely big bullies who use SJ as a "good" excuse to attack people.

Someone who gets into dick size contests but it's about the size of their goodguy badge instead of their dick.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:49 am (UTC)(link)It is also fairly often applied to people that speak up about issues of social justice and object to sexist/racist/transphobic/homophobic trends in media and society, however they are expressed. This is because most people get uncomfortable when someone points out problems in the media they consume or the society they live in, or in their behaviour. So they respond in a dismissive or derisive manner to any criticisms, and try to make the person who brings up the criticisms feel stupid or silly for caring about those issues. When that person gets angry because they refuse to listen or care, the person who is dismissing them gets to say they're being a silly, hysterical and overreacting SJW.
TL;DR it's a term that is occassionally applied to people that deserve the label, but more often used to shut down discussion of things tha make people uncomfortable.
