People are sexist pieces of shit who expect actresses to always 100% be happy and smiling and shining and beautiful and never have a bad habit like leaving their mouth open or have dark circles under their eyes. Every time they are in public they must be completely perfect and put together, because society is horrible and fickle and hates women who do not fit its narrow definition of beauty. they are entitled to looking at only perfection, 100% of the time, and damn you for thinking otherwise.

That's why people call her ugly, even though she's not, and even though she should be criticized or praised for things that ACTUALLY matter. It's something all women have to deal with in all lines of work, and it's bullshit.

Long time no see, fandom-hates-women.

It's something all women have to deal with in all lines of work I don't.

There's a huge difference between sometimes looking bad and consistently looking bad. Obviously, some people think she's attractive, but it would only be sexist to find her unattractive if people didn't also find actors like Alec Baldwin or Steve Buscemi unattractive. Some people are just not attractive to others.

Kirsten Stewart just also happens to be widely considered a poor actress with unnatractive habits like leaving her mouth open. That's not sexist: that's just a common opinion.

I suspect that this "common opinion" you refer to has more to do with mob mentality and plain old jealousy than a fair, actual assessment of her acting abilities. Basically, it's cool to think Kristen Stewart sucks. Twilight is shitty, she's a lucky bitch who doesn't seem nearly thankful enough for her luck, she's not quick to smile inanely and give pat answers to the same old interview questions, and oh, she undeservedly has a costar boyfriend I might call ugly out loud while secretly coveting his charming, affable, and kind of cutely dorky self. But no, that doesn't color my perception of her acting at all. Not one bit.

Cue world's largest eye roll.

I could on here about the way the gossip and entertainment media has done a real number on this girl, but if you're too stupid to get that on your own, then I've already more than wasted my time bothering to type out this comment.

Or you could look at Zathura, Snow White and the Huntsman, Into the Wild, and The Messengers as well as Twilight and come out with the opinion that she's a mediocre actress who brings the same stoner or lackluster personality to every character.

I really don't think the average person disliking KStew is a Twilight fan who is sexually attracted to Robert Pattinson. I certainly don't fit into that category: I'm just someone who happens to have watched several movies she's in and not come out impressed. Not everyone is going off of Twilight because, holy shit, she's been in other movies.

Since I'm not a pedophile, I have no interest in her boyfriend. Nor any interest in Twilight because again, I'm not 14. But I have seen her in other movies and she looks like she's on heroin. Apparently some people find that attractive but I am not one of them.

I thought Robert Pattinson was her boyfriend? How has she dumped him for a child without igniting another firestorm?

Also, where would I get me some of this makes-you-look-like-kristen-stewart heroin?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
Robert Pattinson is most definitely a child in my eyes. For the heroin, it's the same run of the mill heroin that junkies all over America use which is why they have the same black circles under their glazed eyes that Kristen Stewart has under hers.

I'd love to see him in 20 years, but he'll still be laughably younger than me. Assuming I'm still alive.

I am attracted to someone younger, even significantly so, than me =/= I am a pedophile.

HTH

The first time I saw him was in Deathly Hallows and he was not only very young but also underage. If he'd been older when he started acting, I doubt I would feel the way I do about him.

I've only ever seen her in that Snow White movie but she looked like she was on drugs in that despite all the makeup they had on her. I don't care what she looks like in her personal life but it was disturbing to find that I paid money to watch a druggie fumble about for two hours.

This.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
But she recently played in a movie where being overwhelmingly attractive was required for the role. Instead, we got a dark-circles-under-her-eyes, hunchbacked, open-mouthed stoner playing opposite of Charlize Theron. Where is the sexism in finding her unnatractive?

There are certainly actresses the media loves to catch looking terrible, but that's because they normally look nice. The thing with KStew is that she's not criticized for occasionally looking bad- she is almost always criticized for looking bad at times when she should be looking her best, such as in movie roles.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I think there is always going to be a problem when the character in question is supposed to be 'overwhelmingly beautiful'. They have to choose someone, and there are always going to be people out there who say 'what?! that person is hideous!' The same thing happened with Edward Cullen. A character that is basically described as the universal beauty, someone that EVERYONE finds the most attractive under every circumstance, is not possible to cast. They might as well just go with the hype and pick the person that is considered very hot right now, then they have a good chance of having the majority of moviegoers being okay with it.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't understand why this was such an issue. Yes, if you're being shallow, Theron blows Stewart out of the water. But in the context of the move:

- The evil queen's beauty is artificial
- Inner beauty - the queen was beautiful but her soul was ugly

But everybody kept focusing on the superficial. I don't think it was sexism (though, there was probably some of that - women constantly get their worth judged based on their looks) so much as people just have an irrational hatred of KS.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-26 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, did you somehow miss the basic plotline that Snow White is prettier than the Evil Queen, i.e., the Evil Queen's whole reason for wanting to kill her? I have never seen the Disneyfied version that people confuse for the original deviate from this basic story.
