I've only read one of the books, but I really enjoyed it. I mean, I caught tinges of her version of Draco in the way one of the characters was physically described and characterized, but it felt more like a fun nod to fandom than anything else. *shrugs* I wasn't in HP when the scandal was going on, so I don't have a dog in the race as far as CC is concerned personally. I read the Draco trilogy a year or so ago and found it a pretty entertaining read actually; by this time, all the PDFs of her work in circulation have the Buffy quotes attributed. If I hadn't checked out the wank before I read the trilogy, I wouldn't have known what the issue was. My main issue with the Buffy quotes is that at times they detract from characterization; would Draco really be making Muggle references? Methinks not. LOL Plotwise, though, I think the Draco trilogy is really interesting.

She didn't just steal quotes from buffy though. There was huge chunks of other author's works in there as well :P

*nods*

I forget the author's name; that was also attributed in the version I read.

Not excusing plagiarism here; I do not think it's okay at all from an ethical standpoint, nor do I think it makes good writing.

However, coming to the work years and years later with all the passages marked allowed me to be able to enjoy the story for the merits it does possess, if that makes sense. :) If I'd been in the fandom at the time and come upon (ahahahhahahahahh *ahem*) the story as she originally presented it, I think I would have very different feelings about the reading experience.

The point is that even afterthe passages were "marked" huge chunks from more unknown works wer unmarked and what was "cited" only attributed say one rather than a whole dialogue snippet. Also, if you know thedifferent sources you can feel how theyswitch and the inconsistence isnot good style.

Plagiarism is uncool, and generally does not make for good writing. As a teacher, I can tell you that the tonal shifts between a writer's own work and plagiarized work are generally pretty obvious.

It wasn't just plagiarism. She stole her fans money to buy herself a new computer with money she said was for a "charity".

Stealing is also bad. As is duping people.

I'm not sure what we're talking about here, or what you want me to say (assuming I'm talking with the same Anon).

I liked her Draco trilogy and the first one of those Mortal Instruments books although I would not nominate them for the Booker Prize. I am perfectly willing to concede she's a terrible person with whom I do not want to share a meal or hang out or model my life after.

Point is, is that she got that book deal for plagiarism. She's a terrible person. And if someone would rather not give her money then that's okay.

I completely agree with you, and I don't think at any point that I suggested anyone do that. I think we're having two parallel conversations here. :)
