All of the houses are associated with traits that can be positive, including Slytherin. They're also extreme if taken at face value. Most people aren't totally defined by something like ambitiousness. People have a combination of traits, and in your case, you've obviously used your ambition and determination to help people and try to be a good person.

As for Pottermore, I put not stock whatsoever in that sorting quiz. I've seen fan-made sorting quizzes that seemed a lot more reliable than that. Some of the answers are obviously geared toward specific houses, but others seem pretty random. And I still wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of control in place to keep the difference in numbers less than a certain percentage.

I got Gryffindor, and it seemed completely random to me.
