They only get money other than their option if they front enough money into the development of the movie itself to be considered a producer, which I'm reasonably certain that The Claire didn't do.

So mostly you're just voting with your dollar to get more lolarious pulp supernatural thrillers made. Which is, you know. Pretty decent.
