At the same time, I'm an older sibling too, and while I can be extremely protective of my sibs, I have a hard time excusing Percy's actions in trying to prevent Ron from making his own choices. I guess that's my perspective. One of my strongest convictions about really loving people is that if you really love someone you'll respect their decisions even if you don't like them. (I was having an argument with a friend about this yesterday. He was basically saying "if I really loved someone I'd protect her even if she didn't want me to, even if she'd hate me for it." I just find that notion really repulsive.)
But he was well-intentioned. I'll give him that.
tbh I think killing Percy off would have been really cheap. And I definitely think he was redeemable, and he wasn't nearly as "bad" as some of the more direct antagonists.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-28 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)Title: What Should Have Been
Rated: PG-13 for adult themes
Warnings: Miscarriage, attempted suicide
Summary: Arthur knew he shouldn't be reading Percy's diary. But then, he also knew Percy shouldn't be lying in a hospital bed, clinging to life after a suicide attempt, and in the realm of Things That Shouldn't Have Been, his seemed the far lesser offense.
