I shuddered at that scene. It felt incredibly out of place, honestly--the scene in the casino set Bond up as a non-sexual ally, or at least that's how I saw it. Then boom, surprise sex in the shower! With a person who was shown to be very afraid of rejecting a man's advances, so her enthusiastic reaction doesn't really come off as consent.

Honestly, I think it was included because the only other sexual scene was like 10 seconds at the beginning with an unnamed, unseen woman and the shaving scene with Eve, so the director or producers or whoever felt there needed to be something else because it's a ~tradition~. It's certainly not the first time a skeevy, dub-con sex scene has happened in a Bond movie, but it felt really out of place because they've tried to downplay that kind of pandering in the recent films.

Same here. What a huge jump!

Admittedly, I didn't know that was the same lady until I got out of the theater and about two days later for some reason.

Exactly - the woman who played Severine was billed as the Bond girl for the movie so I think they felt it was ~needed~ but it felt forced and actually completely out of character for Bond to have done. Especially since he did come off as her ally in the casino.

But THIS is exactly what it felt like to me it. It felt out of place and just fucking pandering weird.

I thought that was sort of the point? That it's terrible? Bond is genuinely sympathetic towards her, but he's also manipulating her to get what he wants. That's the job. Or at least how he interprets the job.

And you did see him desperate at his shaking hands because he didn't want to shoot her. And then relieved when he misses. Only to have Silva do it instead. Then he's all "business as usual" because he doesn't want to give Silva the satisfaction of seeing him flinch. But, yeah, it establishes that Bond's a pretty suspect guy who does terrible things in his job.

I thought the movie was kinda questioning MI6. They're all shown making questionable decisions and the structure of the organization is revealed as severely flawed. IMO Severine's death was just another way of taunting the audience with what kind of "hero(es)" they're rooting for. The Craig films in general just seem to embrace that kind of moral ambiguity.
