...anyone remember Eames/Arthur? They both had a lot of screen time and they were often in the same room, but the fandom was based on ONE interaction ("sometimes you have to dream a little bigger, darling" or whatever).

To be honest, I think a lot of fans pick the two hottest, fittest men and pair them together because they look good on each other. I've done it- I don't really think it is a great part of fandom, but Bond/Q is certainly not the first time it has happened (Clint/Coulson, Puck/Kurt to some extent in the Glee fandom).

They would look nice together, not even going to lie.

You might be right in general, but I've actually seen some weird pairings that blossomed more from particularly excellent fic/imagined dynamics than just the hotness. (I'm thinking of Clint/Coulson. I'll defend it until I die.)

Anon, I love you for the fact that for a canon that contains Chrises Hemsworth and Evans, Tom Hiddleston, RDJ, and Mark Ruffalo, you're saying Clint/Coulson shippers have "pick[ed] the two hottest, fittest men and pair[ed] them together because they look good on each other." And I mean that seriously! Clark Gregg and Jeremy Renner are totally my pick. But still.

Anon here...I didn't even think of that tbh! I guess I was still thinking of pairings that don't have much canon interaction who have a TON of fic made for them. I could say the same for Thor/Steve and Tony/Loki, I suppose, because I've read great fics for those pairings but they don't have much canon interaction.

(But you could ship a Hemsworth character with a chair and I'd read it.)

Clint/Coulson was always like Ariadne/Yusuf to me...great, hot, well-written fic with NO canon support.

Heh, I totally get that you were speaking about general trends, I just found it was kind of funny to think that Clint/Coulson gets the "Oh people just ship that because they'd look hot together", despite neither of them being conventionally handsome. And I mean I ship it like crazy (and would argue: there's more interaction in the tie-in comic! they work well together! snarky conversation on the comms is canon!), but so little of it is based on how they look.

Eames and Arthur always felt like they had history together though.

I mean, my headcanon was that they'd had a pretty big fight ages ago, but they're still fond of and respected each other and were able to work together.

Yeah, it's all pretty subtle, but you can definitely pick up on some type of history between them in their earlier scenes together.
