There are more to the characters than those traits. Merlin is more than magic, Teen Wolf people are more than werewolves, Sam and Dean have more to their character than being brothers. A good AU keeps the characters recognizable as themselves while putting them in different situations.

I get that AU isn't for some people, that they watch the show for the specific universe and situations, but some people find it fun to explore the characters in different environments or tweaking experiences to see what stays the same and what would change.

I hate it when people try to "educate you about your choices". I once talked about how I only eat Kosher meat because it is slaughtered humanely (uh, and I'm Jewish), and someone tried to link me to a bunch of horror videos about slaughterhouses that supposedly said they were kosher, but weren't. I wasn't stupid enough to click the links and told the sender to fuck off, but in a polite way.

Fwiw, my dad has smoked my entire life. I've never felt the need to smoke, but I can't say I don't find the smell of cigarette smoke comforting.

I'm with you OP. I'm not as huge a fan of The Doctor's Wife as most people seem to be but that was a really good moment. Actually, pretty much all the continuity references were pretty awesome.

I think if it's after a while, when the pain those events may have caused have eased, it's okay to write it without a warning for things. I still put up warnings for 9/11 and the War on "Terror" (when I talk about them in-depth, not when I comment about them in passing).

Good for you!

I used to not leave reviews because I'm an ESL and I could read pretty well I would often make grammar and spelling mistakes, and people online are so nitpicky…

And now I stopped caring. Yay! Sometimes I read something good but I honestly can't think of anything to say besides 'I liked it', so I just write that, and that's it, because if it makes a good author write more than I'm happy.
