I love it when my favorite characters die and am often disappointed when they don't. I am en emotional masochist.

It really is as I said: emotional masochism. I love it when a story rips my heart out, and there's no better way for a writer to do that than to kill off my favorite character. Truthfully, it also feels more realistic to me.

(That's not to say that I dislike anything that has some sort of happy ending, but I vastly prefer melancholic endings and character death).
