Re: Fictional deaths/distresses

Ugh, it's kind of embarrassing given the subsequent...everything...in fandom about it, but Coulson's death (or "death") really did get to me. Even beyond him being probably my favorite character going in. Just imagining...how much that hurt, honestly. And how sudden it was. And Clark Gregg managed to get so much genuine fear and pain into his expression as he slides down onto the floor. And then he's there, bleeding all over the place, alone, for a significant amount of time, and he's obviously conscious for it, and then Fury shows up and he still gives his whole status report and tries to put on a brave face about it, but there's a tear track down his cheek, and he can't even finish his sentence. And then he dies. To me it's even more traumatic to me than Wash, because that at least was quick for Wash and they didn't linger over it in the movie itself.

Like, I appreciate the lengths fandom went to handwave it, and that (SPOILERS) he's not actually dead given the TV show, but in a way it's kind of disappointing to me because it lessens the impact of his death if it was just a LMD or something. If I went through all that suffering it should have meant something, dammit.

As I understand it the TV show will be set before The Avengers initiative, so he will still die. The show is set earlier in his timeline.

But that death scene got to me too. But unlike most of the other characters I love whom are dead. I have read a lot (and I mean A LOT) of fanfiction fixing it.

Ouch, that actually bums me out again. *laughs* I guess I'm just not satisfied with anything! But in a way it makes sense.

YANA!

We do get to see him though! I love Coulson and we can just forget about the fact that after the show ends he will die.

(I might be wrong though, but I know I read somewhere that the show would be set before the Avengers)

DA

I keep seeing the pre-/post-Avengers debate happen, but I've never seen any actual conclusion from anyone. I've looked, too, so if you happen to find it, link me, okay? :D

That said, fandom won't really let Coulson die, and I don't think the show (pre or post) will actually change that. I expect a Clint/Coulson boom.

Yeah. :( Coulson wasn't even one of my favorites, but I wasn't expecting it, and then to see the way everyone else reacted (Maria and Tony being the big ones) it was just...heart shattering.

And then I went into fandom and he sort of started to become my favorite character, and that made it WORSE. I'm sort of surprised you're the first to mention him.

I actually knew it was coming, because I spoil myself about everything, but if I hadn't, I probably would've ended up actively crying in the movie theater.

IA, when I first saw it. Since then...yeah, it doesn't sadden me at all anymore given what fandom did with it, but I was absolutely gutpunched the first time I saw the movie.

Yeah, me too. And I hadn't even seen any of the other MCU movies yet, so I didn't know him before Avengers. Didn't matter, still gutpunched me.
