Re: Fictional deaths/distresses
It's a beautiful scene, it's their consummation (as even Tarantino has stated it is), and it's the best scene in the entire film.
Still, as much as I love it, it's also heartbreaking. They're just essentially two damaged kids forced into this war and they deserved better. However, in their circumstance, it's the most humane and loving end either of them could have ever had.
In a similar vein, the end for Mr. Orange and Mr. White in Reservoir Dogs gets to me just like Shosanna/Fredrick does. I just kept holding out hope that it was going to end differently for them, even though I knew it realistically couldn't - at least, not in their situation.
Tarantino is very good at making me fall in love with his characters and then hurting me at the end.
