6: I would actually feel the same way with you if one of my fanart pieces was used as an icon. THrilled.

Unfortunately it works very, very differently for Japanese artists and some other Asia ones. Seriously. I got literally told by them one "can you tell all your friends to stop taking our images and posting them elsewhere/cropping and modifying them for their own use/using them in their layout". Whether you agere with it or not is a separate issue but it is like that.

re 6: yeah the japanese fanartists are very protective over their work. I applaud everytime another japanese artist takes down their website. Because they know just as well as everyone else that the only way to stop people from posting their work elsewhere/making them into layouts or icons is to simply not post it up at all.

personally, I don't see the harm in using fanart in icons and layouts as long as it is credited to the correct person, but whatever...some people are just anal about it.
