It's not really fair of you to try and pull a blanket statement like that, especially considering you don't like mpreg and therefore have no way of knowing why people like it.

Granted, I'm sure the things you mentioned are the case for some people. Some people probably just get kicks out of it and laugh over it or whatever, or so I assume from the few fics I've seen for it. (I actually haven't seen a single mpreg fanfiction done well, but that's another story.)

Maybe this isn't common, but for me to like mpreg, it has to be a certain way. And it definitely is not to fulfill the happy kittens, sunshine and picket fence ideal. If people really just wanted it for that, they would write about a het couple that is settled and plans to have the kid to start a family. Maybe some people turn slash pairings into that, but... I really don't think it's realistic to be that way. (Unless it takes place in a society where homosexuality isn't something of a taboo, I guess.)

But anyway, I'm getting off-topic. The main thing that intrigues me about mpreg is actually all the problems it causes. After all, it's mpreg. It's obviously not normal, and so when people portray it as such it doesn't really do much for me. What I like is how it causes so many issues. Trauma, the male involved questioning his identity and being fucking scared out of his mind because it isn't supposed to be this way. Sometimes it even leads to mild insanity. So yeah, for me it usually is an accidental, fucked-up thing and the characters just have to make it work whether they want to or not. I guess enjoying that sort of dark, screwed-up stuff happening to characters is also strange, but I tend to lose interest otherwise.

Also, assbabies are a big no no for me. It honestly grosses me out. It either has to happen via genderbending of some sort or the guy having both sets of reproductive organs or something like that. Obviously only some fandoms would work for this and I don't try to make it happen in more realistic ones.

To be honest, mpreg usually comes into the picture when I get bored because the characters are too happy (in the one-on-one RPs I do with a certain friend - I never write and publicly post mpreg fic or do it in group RPs) and so I need to shake things up a bit. Maybe I'm not a "normal" mpreg fan, but with something that's so off-the-wall to start with, it takes a special situation to make it likable for me.

And it's a shame that I have to post this anonymously in the first place, but hardly anyone knows I even like mpreg, and I wonder what they would think of me if they did. It's a little upsetting, because I've always felt that people should be able to like what they like, but... Seems like mpreg is one of those things that most everyone in all fandoms hate on. I just wanted to clear some things up, since you seemed to have a lot of misconceptions, or you were at least making a lot of incorrect assumptions.
