Deist, I believe, is a belief in a specific kind of god - a distant, abstracted, watchmaker god. It implies belief in a certain kind of god, not a certain kind of relation to that god. AFAIK.

All the Deists I know believe in God but don't want to have anything to do with Him/Her/It. She/He/It just exists and doesn't affect how they go about doing things.
