Re: Terminology Question
(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 12:08 am (UTC)(link)Deism requires belief in one or more gods, but rejects revelation i.e. we as humans are capable of knowing the existence of god(s) through our own experience. Whilst deism doesn't require worship, it does seem to be more specific than pure-terms theism.
However, the reader's perception of theism is often through a single god, major religion glass, which can severely colour the perception. If you are writing a fic I would suggest starting with deism, simply because your readers are less likely to assume they know what you mean by it.
