Not even AU's specifically. It depends a bit on the fandom. I'm in seveal and it differs a bit. I'm into slash (though not exclusively)and I find a lot of stories just sort of take place, for the sake of getting two guys together, but it's totally unrealistic. Which I suppose is okay for PWP, but if you're actually writing stories with a plot it bugs me. In some places that seems to be the norm rather than the exception.

I've seen the same with character being back from the dead. Which is also more common in some fandoms than others. Suddenly they're just magically alive. I dunno, say they got shot, you might want to explain how they survived, ended up in hospital or whatever. Especially if the rest of your story is sort of realistic.

I suppose what I see in a lot of fic I read is just wish fulfillment (which is cool) but without any sort of explanation or attempt to tie in in with anything.

when I was writing fanfic, I would write almost exclusively PWP fic. And I still made every attempt at being canon compliant.

Even for just the sex.
