And where on earth did you get it in your head that writers are young, thin, pretty and successful people with steady relationships? Do you even KNOW any actual writers?

Seriously. I hang out with writers. I hang out with a lot of writers. Very few of them fit that description, other than the "successful relationships," of which I see many--but that may be a function of the fact that I live in Utah.

Most of us are middle-aged, middle-to-overweight, middle income, middle appearance people. It's not like you can pick us out of a lineup and go "oh, she must be a writer, look how young and pretty she is!" Nope. Young and pretty is the exception, not the rule.
