If you don't mind an anon asking. What happened?

Hm? Nothing really, I just got sick and tired of it. Original Fiction, both online and published, just filled the void much more cleanly and happily. There's very little to no fandom, but I'm more content that way. Still, it would be great if there were fandoms, but ah well.

EDIT; And things like this, like ship-wars, het-versus-slash-versus-femmeslash... also another reason why I tend to keep away from fanfiction.

You and I are cut from the same cloth.

I've been battling having dropped out of fandom for a while now. I feel guilty that I don't feel guilty. Fandoms and fanfic weren't giving me what I wanted any more and I've fought and fought against writing original stuff until I can't avoid it any longer.

I love writing, fanfiction doesn't do it for me anymore. So I've decided to follow my impulse and writing original fiction and see where it takes me.

Already, I'm much happier for it.

Oh man, I've embraced it!

The day I stopped actively participating in fandom was the day I stopped getting a lot of headaches. It just wasn't that fun anymore. It wasn't because I disagree with some opinions, be it mainstream or not, but the amount of flack for being one part of the fandom or the other just really got me involved in ways that didn't make it a fun hobby. It became more like frequent debating.

Now I just read a lot of independently published stuff and online fiction that because the authors, writers, and artists are so much closer to the fanbase that I feel people are more in harmony there. It sounds very, uhm, "hispter-ish" of me, for lack of a better word, but because there's few of us and because we generally just like the stories and characters for what they are, I feel we mesh well that way.

I'm not going to say that I'll never ever read fanfiction. There's a couple of established, big name series now that I've gotten into which has a big enough fandom for a decent amount of fanfiction to be written. But the appeal's brief, and I quickly retreat back into my corners of the internet.

Here's to us lone wolves.

Yeah. I've all but let my old LiveJournal account go and I've started a new one (like five minutes ago!) that is just me and will hold my writing. No friends, no fandom, no pressure.

I still like to read fanfiction as well but I'm simply not as invested in fandoms as I used to be. I found that I'm a lot calmer now. I don't get all upset about shit any more.

*tinks a glass with you*

We should start a book club for people who don't do fanfic.

Yep. I'm up for that idea. Where do I sign up?
