Whatttttt that is just ridiculous. For one thing, there are Holmes stories without Watson, and they're mostly terrible. For another thing, Watson is awesome, and his contribution to the stories, in terms of structure and plot and in terms of atmosphere and character, is immense - I mean that, in addition to being a great character, he's an essential addition to the plot by allowing us to be outside Holmes' view.

This kind of thing reminds me of someone who wants to get rid of the setup of a joke and just leave the punchline - or someone who only ever wants to eat dessert, and no main course.

I think Lily and Marshall are doing all right on HIMYM. I'm trying to think of other shows where they suddenly had kids but the only thing I'm coming up with is Full House when Jesse and Aunt Becky had the twins and...yeah, that just doesn't count for so many reasons.

Dunno who this is or who the governor is, but if she killed the governor's DAUGHTER to hurt HIM, she's a bad person, (unless the daughter herself did something to deserve to die, but it doesn't sound like that). She's a person herself, not just something you use to hurt someone else.

Very little pisses me off more than someone hurting an innocent person just to get revenge on someone else.

I'm the same, even though I would almost definitely buy the book in hardcopy as well. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: hardcopy books should come with a download code for their digital copy. I am not buying the same book twice just so I can carry it around a little easier.

Especially when they aren't that good! I mean (if we're talking about the same fandom), some of the ones that get recc'd so often are cute but pretty OOC and implausible and meh. But there's just so much fic production that I don't feel comfortable wading in and looking for goodfic myself, so I have to rely on recs. Dilemma!
