(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 03:35 am (UTC)(link)The annoying one that ALWAYS gets recced - and I never remember the name - but I'll click on it and be like 'HOW ARE ADULT PEOPLE RECCING THIS OVER AND OVER' (It's the AU where Sterek learns to watch Doctor Who together...it's long and just...obviously written by someone in high school, SORRY WRITER.)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 03:48 am (UTC)(link)But like, everyone insists its a must read. But it's just so boring.
What I really hate though and it's driving me up the walls lately is that people are post chapters of WIP as a part of a series. No. Just label it as a WIP and move on. When I read fic, I check on Ao3 that it's complete. I get so pissed when I get to the end, and it's not a complete or a stand-alone fic, it's part of a series that hasn't been updated in months. Ugh personal rant over.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 04:22 am (UTC)(link)I read it all (I was volunteering that day, and it was that or do actual work) and I then spent the rest of the night raging about it.
It's not horribly written, but the plotting and some of the facts reeks of someone in high school writing it. And as an adult, nothing throws me out of a fic faster than basic ADULT LIFE concepts being fucked up.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 05:32 am (UTC)(link)I always forget the name of it, so I click on it and get pissed at myself.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 04:16 am (UTC)(link)Also, yes, "DILF" is very cute and well written from a technical standpoint, but it's basically AU enough to be original fiction for me. I wish people would calm down about it.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 04:27 am (UTC)(link)DILF is one of my favs, but honestly my favorite fics in fandom tend to be the AUs, because I don't have to deal with differing ideas about canon. It's really hard for me to enjoy some Teen Wolf fic, because we see canon VASTLY different, while in AUs it's still a basic set-up, but in figuring its own canon. - That being said, the rabid, weird Tumblr girl fans of that fic need to take it down a few knocks.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 04:41 am (UTC)(link)DILF is interesting to me, because it's really very well written, and has a lot of great little touches that I enjoyed a lot. But it's...sometimes AUs are great because they managed to keep the personalities of the characters intact despite vastly different surroundings, and some are great despite not having done that. And for me it's more the latter.
But I agree with you about how different fanon can be from canon: St. Stiles, growly grouchy Derek, the pack dynamics that straight-up don't exist...ugh, even fics I do like tend to pick up bits of it. So I can see the sense in preferring AUs, which shouldn't be burdened by all of that.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 05:31 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, and sometimes for me it's just how they read how werewolves act, instead of what they are actually like in the show. Or making Scott really stupid (I'm not saying he is gonna be in MENSA anytime soon, but he's not the DUMBEST person in the world). OH when people think Stiles would ever pick the pack over his father. (There is an future!fic where Stiles ran out of Beacon Hills and never even visited his father and lost touch with him...and what we have seen in the show, that is just NOT going to happen to me)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 06:36 am (UTC)(link)A lot of fics have Stiles telling his father too about werewolves, and while I`m fine for situation reveals (Alpha whatever shifts in front of him, fine) but Stiles hasn`t given any indication in the series (even if it would`ve been much better for him to have his dad in the know) of wanting to sit down and tell his father. This could be for numerous reasons, but I think the simplest reason is that Stiles and Scott are foils of each other.
Sorry, it makes sense in my head. It`s just a pet peeve of mine when authors explain the sheriff as being in the know with a simple `And before college, Stiles sat down and explained to his father about werewolves and his father was hunky-dory about it.`

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 07:13 am (UTC)(link)I think the Sheriff will find out in the end, buuuut like not just sitting him down and calmly telling him about the werewolves. I have a feeling his reveal is gonna go down a lot like how Mama Mccall found out, in the middle of a horrible life or death situation, and Stiles has done everything to stop him from finding out, because he feels like it is going to save his dad's life.
And I see the Sheriff being even more freaked out and NOT OKAY with werewolves because, unlike Mama McCall, his son isn't one, so the Sheriff can easily say: "You need to stay the fuck away from this."

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 06:49 am (UTC)(link)This was my fall too. And I thought the exact same thing. I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE *sob*
I thought the AU-Children`s book writer one was tolerable, barely, until the end with the SPOILER - CHEATING. Or at least I think. There was too much crying and sobbing by Stiles to really understand what the author was going for.
And....the kid.
Why do Derek/Stiles have to have a kid to make their relationship real?
80% of TW Sterek fics involve kids being either A) popped out of Stiles` rear end, B) Adopted, or C) Given to them by a witch or something.
I want to read a fic now where Scott tells Stiles it`s completely possible to get knocked up even though he`s a man by Derek. Stiles being all, nah, man, you`re kidding. Derek backing it up (no, that`s just stupid, Stiles). And then Scott pranking Styles with a positive pregnancy test leading to Stiles freaking out about being pregnant and no one realizing what`s wrong until he finally tells Derek and Derek is like, `OH GOD I NEVER KNEW` cue more drama until Scott is like, duuuuude, don`t be ridiculous, men can`t carry children and they realize it`s all a joke, //I`m a terrible person and pregnancy scares aren`t fun and I went on my own mini rant. Sorry OP.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 07:05 am (UTC)(link)You are totally right about that child-author Derek one. It wasn't bad (although, I am not a fan of the will they or won't they, so I thought that fic draaaagged it out a little too much) - but the cheating, the possible cheating? Someone kissed someone? And someone else had coffee with their ex? And the letters back and forth that were just OVERLY angsty for me. The ending kinda ruined the entire fic for me.
Wow, that is a part of fandom I have never come across! (I tend to stay away from Mpreg in fandom), but I can see this being a thing in Teen Wolf fandom for some reason. Maybe it's because their fans seem so young and a lot of them this is their first SLASH fic that they are a little overboard on the relationship thing. (That could be generalizing. I feel really old in this fandom sometimes)
But I would ABSOLUTELY read that fic and love it. That sounds like the best premise ever. (You aren't a horrible person, though pregnancy scares aren't fun, but I think they can be hilarious if it's a man freaking out about one)
