At the same time, when Katniss' skin or possible ethnicity is referenced, it more clearly indicates white than anything else.

While there's an open possibility and casting directors could/should have taken it, I also can't fault them for assuming she was white at all.

No, it most clearly references someone of mixed race.

Nope. Olive skin and dark hair does not mean not white. Also, later on in the third book, Katniss's skin is described as "pink", as I remember. Considering her mom and sister are white... yes, it definitely is possible that Katniss is mixed race. Absolutely. However, it's just as likely, if not more likely, that Katniss is white.

imo, if they had cast a mixed race person, great, power to them, there aren't enough mixed or non-white heroines out there. However, considering the narrative, they weren't really under any obligation to do so.

It's described as pink when she is healing from a burn, which, fyi, is not an exclusive to Caucasian skin reaction.
