Oh my God, I agree with you completely! Have you ever played Mass Effect? It's really hilarious, because they made the female character quickly, modeling her movements on the MALE motion capture actor, transferring 99% of her dialogue over just switching the pronouns, etc. It should have been shoddy, but instead you have a kickass feminist statement, because at no point does the female lead's gender matter, and at no point -- no point at all! -- does the game fail the Bechdel Test. In fact, if you're playing a female Shepard, it kicks the damned test out of the park.

It has been soooooo refreshing to play. I kind of cried halfway through the first one because there was finally a game where I *connected* with the heroine.

I love the hell out of what they did with FemShep, particularly that they didn't bother to make her mannerisms stand out as "feminine" or "sexy". I know lots of dudebros complained about her "walking like a gorilla", but fuck them. You don't like that a confident military woman who has no time for your shit walks like a normal goddamn person and doesn't sway her hips every time she takes a step? Fucking deal with it.

Yeah, the folks developing Blacklight solved the "but but all that expensive of different movements" and "but but smaller hitboxes break the game" by just having the female soldiers move like the male ones and making them just as tall and bulky, only with breasts. Most shooters have a variety of male voices for the avatars, too - they just hired a woman as one of them. It ended up looking extremely kickass and surprisingly realistic as a result.

So there is no goddamned reason other devs can't do the same. The Blacklight devs said the time/cost involved, doing it their way, was "trivial".
