Thing is, even if someone wrote a really good Gay Guy/Girl romance and made it clear in the text that Gay Guy was Still Gay, just... having a relationship with girl, because this one girl he just likes like that, there would be huge numbers of people offended by it because someone wrote Gay Guy straight! and there would be massive hate campaigns and harassment and poor Someone would end up being driven right off the internet because the whole issue of forcing gay people to be straight is such a sore point that they wouldn't read far enough into the fic to see the qualifier that Gay Guy is Still Gay.

I hope you can see why people just don't want to open that can of worms, no matter how much they might want to write That Fic, and how much they might intend to Do It Right.
