Cry moar. Honestly, I'm getting a bit exasperated with all the female gamers who claim that they don't find gameplay to be "immersive" if they can't play as a woman. If you truly can't find a game compelling because it doesn't feature a female protagonist, that's either a personal problem or a fault with the game itself. Maybe a little of both.

Look, it's perfectly fine to want more kickass female protagonists/main characters in a game franchise. That would be wonderful. But the fact of the matter is that games are typically targeted at a male demographic. I don't see this changing anytime soon.

And I'm speaking as a girl myself. Guess what? 98 percent of the time I'll play as a male character in a game where you do have the choice. Some of us girls just enjoy it better, for various reasons. There are plenty of games who offer a female character model. Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and hey, psst---before you go off half-cocked? Assassin's Creed does offer a female assassin character. For the Vita. (And way to gloss over the existence of several strong female protagonists in games by the by--just because you aren't playing as them doesn't make them any less awesome.)

^ this. When I pick a character to play as, I pick the one that I think looks the coolest. Sometimes it's female, sometimes it's male. It doesn't really matter to me because whether or not a game is "immersive" has nothing to do with the gender of the main character and everything to do with how they're written.

One of my all-time-favorite games is The Walking Dead. I'm not male or black but that didn't stop me from being able to empathize with Lee because he is a well-developed, fleshed-out character.

It's dumb when guys claim that they can't identify with a female character and it's just as dumb when girls do the same thing.

The fact of the matter is that games need to realise that the male demographic isn't the only people buying them and that there are quite a few female gamers. I would hope it would change sometime soon with the relatively popularity of DA, ME and Skyrim (my fingers are crossed that they'll get internet stats to see what % of each gender is played)

There are some games, but not many that offer the option. I can get OP's aggravation with that. I'm only beginning to get mildly annoyed with it, but give me a few more years. (granted I'm annoyed because I KNOW they can make awesome games with a female character, but most of the time they still make it male exclusive ;___; )

I don't get how listing a couple or even several strong female characters disolves an argument? Okay, so we have a couple! Yay for us! But now we won't get more because people point back at the games you listed and go "why are you complaining? there's a few games over there. Go play those!"

So what if you play male 98% of the time? Good for you, 98% of the time you have no problem whatsoever because youre catered to. There's some guys upthread who admit to prefer playing female. The field of what gender people prefer to play evens out - but the actual option of WHAT you get to play isn't even in the slightest :/

lol, I don't think AC3:Liberation gets to count, simply because it is confined to the Vita. Shame, it did look good.
