Yeah, I'm with you, I don't mind a game where you have to play as a male character, though I prefer it if said character is someone fully-fleshed out and not meant to be an "avatar" for the player. If it is an avatar who doesn't really have a personality of their own, then there really is no reason not to allow the player to choose male or female.

It would be nice to see more of the fully-fleshed out leads be female though. And even some of them do have male/female options, like Sheppard in Mass Effect.
