Then, PLEASE, nonny. Enlighten me. Cause I see nothing wrong with defending someone. Or standing up to some douchcanoe cause he or she or they are being a dick.

I don't know what ontd_p is, so this is just a general comment. But I can understand at least one flavour of frustration with allies - sometimes they don't let you get a word in edgeways.

I'm grateful for everyone who is on my side, and who will speak up against the dickwads. But it's much easier to talk about an issue that doesn't effect you directly. Which means that sometimes allies - with the best intentions in the world - jump into conversations more quickly, more loudly, and sometimes with a side order of not really Getting It.

Suddenly you realise that you're the lezzer at the back who can't make herself heard over all of the straight people theorising about what it's like to be you. And sure, what they're saying is way better than the straight folks theorising about why you shouldn't have rights. But at the end of the day it's still a gigantic bore to hear stuff that's just your life turned into buzz-words and abstractions.

So it's like mansplaining, basically? But for straight/queer instead of men/women. I've been lucky in that I haven't had that sort of experience with an ally but I can see how it could easily happen. Still, I'd rather have a know-it-all ally than an enemy.
