Oh, get OVER yourself. I'm a woman, and I have no problem playing as a man. If this tiny little thing makes you flip your shit, I seriously worry about you. Fact of the matter is, most gamers are male, so that's what companies are going to pander to.

I'm not saying I agree with the OP completely but it would be a good idea for developers to diversify their PCs a bit. In the very least, it wouldn't hurt.

But aren't those females mainly casual (as in Facebook games and maybe Sims level casual) gamers? I don't know, I play basically anything and I also have one or two female friends who do the same (and interestingly, none of us really care about the representation of females in gaming), but most of my female acquaintances who play casual stuff wouldn't touch the more ~serious~ games, not because they feel objectified/oppressed/ignored by the gaming world, but because they find video games stupid, too time consuming and confusing.

Even if they are this kind of thinking can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. You don't make many female heroes because you think there isn't a market but because there aren't many female heroes there are people who abandon or never get into gaming and therefore there isn't a market.

Furthermore, I think that casual gaming can act like a stepping stone for people to get more interested in the entire genre. I base this idea completely upon watching some friends of friends so take it with a grain of salt.

You see, your situation is the complete opposite of mine. Almost every single one of my female friends is a gamer and most of them loathe casual games. The ones who like both are definitely in the minority and I don't know any who are only into casual games.

On top of that, we're excluding the idea that men wouldn't mind or might even prefer playing as a female.

I just don't think it's so cut and dry. Besides, as I said before, what could it hurt? Are we really causing a horrible thing to happen if we up the diversity?

Oh my GOD! Thank you so much! I've been so wrong to treat the dearth of female characters as if it's a real problem, when there are such legendary gaming classics like Anaza Aku Yatsu making strides for womankind!

46% of gamers are female. So maybe the companies should start pandering a little bit more to the minorities and hay, maybe more girls will play games.

as a consumer, i'm not spending money on games where i can't play as a female anymore. my choice to make.

oh wow, I have been enlightened. There are a bunch of subpar games where I can play is female. God forbid I want a fully made immersive FPS adventure or something. Clearly as a female all I want to play is Barbia, a bunch of japanese games Ms Pac-Man

Most of the games you listed are
a) Aimed at the under 13 year olds
and
b) for consoles that no longer exist.

Seriously the majority there are for the sega, snes and game boy. Did you even look at the lists or did you google the first list of games with female protags without looking?

You sound like one of those women who have decided that anyone who doesn't admire the male form is a bad!woman.

I don't like men. I don't want them, I don't want to be one and while I identify with them on a human level, I don't want to play as them.
