Re: Ugliest language?

Hindi, that makes sense. But Indian? There is no Indian language. Accent depends on the region and language being spoken (a Tamil person does not sound or speak like some speaking Urdu).

Also, this comment that frankly had racist undertones. A huge part of racism and harassment directed Indians is centered around the accents and language, so it's kind of a racially sensitive topic. Types of statements like "they're accents annoy me" are usually touted by racists, and are only a few steps shy "they annoy me".

As someone of South Asian descent, I found your comment to be kind of offensive. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're unaware of racism around these types of statements, but still..

Please tell me which accents/languages it's okay to dislike and which are considered racist. I sure as hell hope you put this exact same message in response to every other comment in this thread - otherwise you'd look like a racist yourself!

I think that she was referring to English spoken with an Indian accent, not to some generic "Indian" language. While there would be English accent differences between native Tamil speakers and native Urdu speakers, I doubt most listeners raised outside of India would be able to sense the difference.

You make a good point about the racist overtones associated with these kinds of statements, but to be honest...I think I find heavy Indian accents annoying, too!

I'm South East Asian (though not Indian) and thick Indian-accented English bothers me, too. Because of my name, Indian representatives always call me, and I end up just not understanding their English.
