You do realize Aragorn/Arwen is canon and a lot of the scenes were adapted from material in the appendices, right? It's quite different.

Also, there wasn't anything wrong with Aragorn/Arwen, IMO.

I don't see what's wrong with Aragorn/Arwen either... I understand that it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but as for their scenes together? I thought they were really sweet and well written. *shrugs*

But I haven't heard anything about Kili/Tauriel...is this going to be a canon thing, or is this a fan thing? I don't want Kili to get a random love interest, but at the same time...idk, even if it happens maybe it won't be as awful as people expect. And if it is, we can just ignore it. That's what fandom is for, right?

Kili/Tauriel is a fan thing.

Tauriel is a fan thing. Which is why it's going to be forced and terrible. I have absolutely no doubt about that.

No no, I know it isn't canon in the books (and that Tauriel doesn't exist in the first place), I'm asking if it's going to be canon for the movies. Everything that's been said here points to that but I was just wondering if people are jumping to conclusions or if it's seen explicitly in a trailer somewhere or brought up in an interview or something. Guess I'll just google it...

idk. I'm assuming it will be. Or at the least that Tauriel will be paired with someone and it will be forced and awful.

I read the comment and it seems like it might not necessarily be a romance, but more of an attraction? (Possibly an unrequited one that doesn't go anywhere.) That's what I'm hoping anyway.

Eh... I just hope that if it's an unrequited attraction or something, it's not made out like Tauriel is omg so in luv with Kili, or like she's a jerk for not liking him, or something. :\

I just don't see how this can work in Tauriel's favor.

I'm not pleased with the news either (the one female they make up, a possible love interest? Why? :/) but until I see the movie I'm going to stay positive. Maybe it won't be a big deal? I can't imagine how they'd fit a full blown romance in for Kili...even over three movies. Hopefully Jackson knows well enough to not even try and at most there will be a little flirtation and a few more 'D:' at the end.

I think the guy who plays Kili (I've forgotten his name -_-) brought it up in an interview and there was some confusion over whether it was a joke or not.

Alternatively, the character breakdowns mentioned an Idril who was having a forbidden romance with an Elf Lord from Rivendell and it was believed that Tauriel was just Idril renamed.

All the nonsense about Arwen's life being tied to the ring wasn't in the appendices, and that was waaaaay melodramatic.

Arwen's life was tied to the ring because she chose mortality and if Sauron won, she would die along with all the other humans.

In the movie, they made it seem like she was acutely wasting away. That scene where she drops the book for no particular reason came off as damsel-in-distress weak-little-delicate-flower bullshit.
