Oh gods, I hope so.
If only because I don't want one of the few female chars just be a love interest. They pretty much pulled this shit with Eowyn and it pissed me off. There was way too much focus on Aragorn and her own story wasn't as fleshed out as in the book.

I've heard a thing or two about this, and I'm not terribly bothered by it. Some scenes from Arwen/Aragorn's little love trippings could have been better, but overall I feel like it was a good part of the trilogy that kept parts of the world relevant (like the elves or Elrond). I think Jackson's handling of Eowyn was way worse.

That said, I'll be disappointed if they felt like they had to make an original character hot elf chick hook up with the suddenly hot dwarf guy. Hook her up with the polite dwarf, or something, I like him. Ori, I think.

I'm not terribly impressed with Tauriel's existence at all. Especially since they decided to cast Kate. I can't imagine why.

You do realize Aragorn/Arwen is canon and a lot of the scenes were adapted from material in the appendices, right? It's quite different.

Also, there wasn't anything wrong with Aragorn/Arwen, IMO.

I was going to say that Aragorn/Arwen were perfectly fine, but then I remembered that while I love them, I do think that the 'Arwen is dying because of the Ring' subplot (and also the warping of Elrond's character) annoyed me a bit, so maybe I can see where you're coming from on that one...

But we don't anything about Kili/Tauriel yet, do we? I mean, for all we know, it could be just a few jokes à la Gimli/Galadriel...

Ugh, it's been a few years since I read this book, but I don't remember any romance in it. Is this what we're getting three movies for? Bah. And I love Aiden, I do, but he just does not look like a dwarf to me! I'm actually getting a little less excited to see this film instead of more :(

My main issue is that it was a HUGE deal for Legolas/Gimli to be friends, especially considering their respective histories in the whole scheme of things (fathers, cousins etc).

Doing this Kili/Tauriel crap to me cheapens something that JRRT set up, and was so damn amazing.

They're kind of a doomed romance aren't they? Tauriel is and elf, and though dwarves live a long time, they're not immortal.
Are is Tauriel going to pull a Legolas and sail off into the West with Kili?

I'm just glad she's not Legolas's girlfriend; which is what I first thought.

I've just come from The Hobbit and she's not in it (yet). There's not a single romantic scene anywhere. Of course, there's two more movies to go, but at least this one is fine?

For anything in the world I'd like for one movie NOT to have a romantic (or hints at least) storyline or a sideplot. I always feel a little sad about it, because real life isn't like that, people don't fall in love every time there's a female around. If there was just one good movie that focused on the badassery and independence of the characters and how you can have fun WITHOUT a girl/boyfriend, I'd be happy for the rest of my life.
