...There's a live action Super Mario Brothers movie?

Anyway, my biggest guilty pleasure is Negima. The fanservice of middle-school girls is disgusting and I hate to admit I'd even look at something like that, but I love the art and characters and plot. ;_;

Yeah, the fanservice can get a little heavy at times, but hands-down Negima has one of the best plots of any manga I've ever read! (disregarding the last few chapters).

What's it about? I'm intrigued.

It would be a gross oversimplification if I say it's: "A ten-year old boy teaching English in an all-girl high school class." But if I elaborate any further I would risk spoiling the plot twists and revelations that made this manga so great.

Let me see if I can explain this...

One day, A ten-year old magic practitioner comes to a Japanese academy to teach English in an all-girl high school class. The boy is the son of the Thousand Master, a powerful Mage who ended a gigantic war in the magic world over two decades ago, but is now currently missing.

The boy wishes that one day he will find and surpass his father.

Later, through a series of seemingly random but interconnected plot arcs, it turns out that there is a group trying to completely obliterate the Magic World, which has advanced to the point of machanized transportation and lift. They plan to do this by harnessing the power of one of the girls in the boy's class. Why? Answering that would reveal a plot twist determinal to the climax of the story. Plus, as the manga progresses, it turns out that the girls in the class are not as they appear to be...

That is as far as I can go without revealing anything. The manga, despite it's initial chapters, has (and in my opinion, still have) the best plot of any manga I've ever read. the characterization is amazing and the settings in both the human and magic world are fleshed out to full detail. It manages to balance humor and seriousness, especially in later arcs, and it even characterizes the villains to the extent that, once the plot fell into place, you can't help but sympathize with them (at the risk of spoiling a part of the manga, I'll give you this example: A girl barely into her teens joins the villains because of a tragic (and implied: depraved) incident with her only elder sister).

I recommend you read it through the first few arcs before deciding for yourself whether or not you like it. I certainly did.

Definitely agree with you about Negima. I LOVE the characters and the art is absolutely AMAZING, but I tried discussing it with a friend once and it got all awkward because she was like, "Isn't the guy, like, ten years old?" and I couldn't really say anything back to that :S

Agreed on Negima. I hated the first few volumes and dropped it for a while, and then I finally got around to picking it back up again and it was like "OMG when did this get good?" It's actually a very solid shounen series once you get past all the fanservice, and I liked the cast a lot.

Uuuuuurg, I've always hated Negima and judged the fuck out of Ken Whatever for always writing that kind of junk. Which is a shame because I think the art and battles are terrific.

...but seeing all these people in this thread who say it's good in spite of the creepy-ass fan service... I just might... have to reconsider. -_____- fuuuuuuuuuuuu... ck.
