It's been ages since I've seen this movie, but if I remember right it was a pretty cartoonish scene where ran around and got it put out, right? Very Looney Tunes-y? that might be why nobody talks about it, we're used to thinking of that sort of violence as OK even for a G-rated film because it's obviously "not real" in our minds thanks to cultural context from cartoons. I'm sorry it bothered you, though. I think it's a pretty valid response to be disturbed by it, even if a lot of people aren't.

I think that it's just that maybe other people aren't bothered by it OP? I mean I'm sure there are some people like you who are, but I'd never bring it up because I just thought it was funny.

I don't remember him getting set on fire at all but reading the posts above me it was probably because it was done in a more cartoonish fashion and, I assume, he didn't die or was horribly disfigured or anything.

Tone, context, and framing are everything.

It was a trick gone wrong, that if I recall correctly he had instigated in an urge to draw in more of an audience (the fire at least was his idea) so it was cartoonish and seen as dramatic justice. He fired them because of it and then later came back and begged them back saying he'd do it again because everyone loved the trick so he'd light himself on fire for the hell of it.

Then, yeah, there was nothing dire about the scene. It was played for laughs. I dunno, seems like a common slapstick cartoon thing to me.

Maybe no one cares because he was kinda a jerk, it was cartoonish, and we see him again later and he's perfectly fine.

It was his own fault, and it's not like it affects him. We see him later on and he's fine.

Well, he was fine enough to fire (ah-ha-ha) the bugs and then he shows up later and says he'll do it 10 times a week for the money. Even watching it the first time I was so sure he was fine I didn't bother me.

This. The scene was scary, but cartoonish and because he insists on doing it again it couldn't have been such a horrible experience for him.
