I don't remember him getting set on fire at all but reading the posts above me it was probably because it was done in a more cartoonish fashion and, I assume, he didn't die or was horribly disfigured or anything.

Tone, context, and framing are everything.

It was a trick gone wrong, that if I recall correctly he had instigated in an urge to draw in more of an audience (the fire at least was his idea) so it was cartoonish and seen as dramatic justice. He fired them because of it and then later came back and begged them back saying he'd do it again because everyone loved the trick so he'd light himself on fire for the hell of it.

Then, yeah, there was nothing dire about the scene. It was played for laughs. I dunno, seems like a common slapstick cartoon thing to me.
