People also seem to forget that men in comics are almost never posed to look like submissive little victims (exposing throat, opening legs, looking away in a shy way, presenting their "assets" in a "come take me" kind of way, open mouth).
Namor is sexy, but in the end he's just a guy in speedos. He's sexy in a "oh look, a guy with a hot body" kind of way.
But to make him look like a typical comic woman he should at least wear a thong with frills, his nipples should get some kind of decoration and his boots should hinder him more in running away from a possible attacker.
Instead Namor is still presented like a man you want to admire and let him have his way with you, not your personal sex toy.
"Female form highlight" and "male form highlight" have nothing to do with it, because that stuff doesn't exist. Only cuts do exist.
A skin-tight spandex outfit reveals the figure, no matter if woman or man.
You only think it's ridiculous for men to wear thongs/heels/etc because society has taught you that only women need to wear this stuff and if men do it they lower themselves, which is only acceptable for women.
And the clothes themselves aren't even the real problem the Hawkeye Initiative is highlighting. The problem are the poses that contort the female chars into fuck toys with ass and tits neatly alligned. Female heroines are shows "battling" their enemies by sensually groping them while jiggling their goodies, while male heroes are drawn to deliver real punches and pain.
Sorry for the wall of text, but this male form/female form stuff mostly comes from defenders of sexism in comics and it really has made me bitter at this point. Especially, since I love guys in lingerie (male cut, but everything else like the stuff for women, lace and frills included) and I don't get how this would make ME a deviant, but my boyfriend a normal guy (for liking female cut lingerie on yours truly).

This is going to start a long tangent on basically MORE male or MORE female. Both men and women have hips, but women have rounder, bigger hips, and therefore hips are looked at as a feminine trait. This is almost universal and this is pretty much deep-rooted. This is not a culturally condition standard of male vs female beauty, this is how we perceive male vs female forms on a biological level.

No, these are simply sexually available poses NOT submissive ones. All of these things remind people of what a woman looks like in bed, which YES tends to look pretty exposed. That's part of the emotional appeal of sex as well: intimacy and trust.

If you drew the exact same speedos on a woman it would look more masculine. Male speedos are thicker and cover the hips a lot more. Otherwise, yes, usually his outfit is just about showing skin. The one linked to, however, is NOT. It clearly highlights his shoulders and arms. A woman dressed to look the same type of sexy would not be wearing an outfit that looks like that. It would highlight her hips and breasts, not her abs and shoulders.

This belief is just stemming from a huge misrepresentation about standards of beauty. Almost all of them are biological, not cultural.

Just because it's highlighting the female form doesn't make it okay to represent women like that. This is the issue, not that they're making the distinction at all. Men are dressed to look more combat-ready. To look tough and dangerous. Not to look sexy. Women are dressed to look sexy and sexual, not to look tough or capable.
This is an issue when it comes to designing HEROES.

I'm saying that anon is frankly wrong if they think certain things aren't meant to emphasize female form over male form in an objective sense. Both men and women have shoulders, but male shoulders are wider and more immediately noticeable, therefore, male trait.
It still doesn't justify the way women are drawn and portrayed.

Not always. I expect Big Barda to have thicker, more muscular legs than, say, than, say, Nightwing, because one is an acrobat and the other a tank. That's the problem, when artists don't take into account that not every male or female form should have a generic build, they each should have different physical characteristics based on their skills.

Women don't look like that when they're being aggressive in bed. There's different types of sexual availability, and the one almost universally chosen for women is flailing backwards, waiting to be taken, instead of leaping forwards, seeking to take (or meet as equals). No doubt the former is more appealing to most of the men drawing them, I'm not arguing that, but it's not the only type of sexuality there is for women, and it's not the one every female character would express.
