A lot of erotica is actually significantly more explicit than most fanfic
I doubt this simply because of the types of kinks that are employed in fanfic that would be considered illegal or too offensive to publish.

Yeah I can't imagine there being much knotting or young teen/adult(among so many, many others) erotica out there.

It not representing obscure kinks doesn't make it soft-core. It exists, and it's porny--more so than a lot of explicit fic, and it's in book stores. That is the extent of my point.
