Because even though most of fandom won't admit it to themselves, LoK was an inferior show, and there's less to grab on to, less to think about, less to say.
It'll pick back up when the show starts back up; more's the pity.

Also let's make sure not to say "the writers." There were no "writers" for Legend of Korra. There was Mike and Bryan. They wrote every episode. They are the writers.
